Lion’s Whelp Hebrew Academy, an extension of Hebrew Academy of Detroit, is a private, independent, online Hebrew faith-oriented academy for ages 5 through 17. We place high importance on Hebrew studies and general education. Emphasis on Hebrew Faith, Hebrew Culture, Hebrew Language, Hebrew History, and Character Development is prevalent across the curriculum.

All subjects are taught by professional instructors and faith-based teachers. Our verbal and visual exercises, plus hands-on studies, allow us to maintain a high interactive level of learning. A strong emphasis is placed upon Hebrew customs and heritage as integration into the student's community is essential for healthy self-esteem.

Hebrew Language

Hebrew Language

Hebrew language at Lion’s Whelp is taught in a progressive, levelled system. Students at every age level will learn a basic letters and vocabulary in this course, but the goal is more foundational than vocabulary building. Students will become familiar with the way the language functions—the fact that the alphabet reads right to left, recognition of the letters, how to write the letters, the way vowels points are added to letters to produce different sounds, etc. Students learn new concepts then practice with a variety of written and spoken activities.

Hebrew History

Hebrew History

Hebrew History: Students will learn the social, religious, intellectual, and political experience of the Hebrews that are scattered abroad from the crystallization of us a nation in the biblical period through the end of slavery in America. Students, at each age level will learn the details of the stories and ancestors in the 5 books of the Torah as well as Nevi’im (Prophets) and Ketuvim (Writings) to migration into Africa to the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade event and how we transition from biblical stories to Hebrew History. Students will learn history, literary work, migration routes, customs and geography that proves their history.

Hebrew Culture

Hebrew Culture & Identity – Students will learn the importance of Torah Culture in Hebrew Life, as well as values, ethics and theology as they relate to Hebrew tradition. The traditions that are commonly practiced during Shabbat, the Moedim (Feast Days) and Life-Cycle events, including methods of how we worship.

Business

Business

Students at every age will walk away understanding of the importance of keeping wealth within the Hebrew community. Additionally, they will learn economic and organizational environments in which modern business operates, group economics, entrepreneurship skills, Hebrew-centered co-ops. Students will be introduced to the functional areas of business-accounting, information systems, research, finance, management, supervision, financial literacy, money management, customer service skills, communication skills, product inventory, marketing strategies, branding, human resources, marketing and how each relate to controlling our own economic narrative as Israelites.
